Moldovan and Georgian premiers discuss bilateral partnership

Prime Minister Pavel Filip and Georgian Prime Minister Giorgi Kvirikashvili today had a meeting, on the sidelines of the session of the heads of government from the Organization for Democracy and Economic Development (GUAM) member states. The discussions were focused on strengthening the bilateral relations and development of the Moldovan-Georgian partnership, both at the bilateral level and within international organizations.     

 

Prime Minister Pavel Filip welcomed the completion of the process of liberalization of the visa regime with EU for Georgia’s citizens, stressing that this represented a step towards carrying out the country’s European integration. In this respect, Pavel Filip highlighted the good cooperation between Moldova and Georgia in terms of European integration and the importance of exchanging experience in this sector, especially by means of cooperation within the Eastern Partnership, as well as in the context of implementing the Moldova-EU Deep and Comprehensive Free Trade Agreement.   

 

Also, Prime Ministers Filip and Kvirikashvili emphasized the importance of developing the political dialogue, aimed including at boosting the trade relations. The officials underlined, in this respect, the preparation of a meeting of the Moldovan-Georgian inter-governmental commission for commercial and economic cooperation, due in Tbilisi on 27-28 April. “I am confident that this meeting will give an impetus for the development of the cooperation in the trade and economic sector, and the bolstering of the Moldovan-Georgian relations will speed up the European integration of both states,” Pavel Filip said.    

 

At the same time, the Moldovan prime minister referred to Moldova’s interest in taking over the good practices enforced by Georgia to reform the justice sector, domestic affairs, defence, as well as in terms of diversifying the energy sources, promotion of exports and investments’ attraction. In the end of the meeting, Prime Minister Pavel Filip invited his Georgian counterpart to pay a working visit to Moldova.
