Solutions on removing barriers that hinder investment attraction and getting work and residence permit for foreign citizens were discussed at a working meeting chaired by Prime Minister Pavel Filip.

In the context, the premier referred to the actions already taken by government to improve business environment, such as: reducing the number of control institutions and permits, approving legislation ensuring predictability and transparency of state control.

At the same time, Pavel Filip said that in parallel with these measures, there would be simplified and reduced procedures that a foreign citizen had to carry out in order to be able to legally work in Moldova. “Currently, a situation was created when barriers to legalize stay and employ foreigners become obstacles to investment in our country”, Pavel Filip said.

To remove these constraints, following an initiative of the premier, the Secretariat of Economic Council in partnership with the responsible authorities elaborated a plan of measures allowing completing administrative steps to legalize the stay of foreigners in a reasonable time and simple procedures. This process was preceded by open and constructive discussions with the responsible authorities and business environment.

The premier noted “the state must maintain further its role as exigent regulator, and procedures for issuing work and residence permits for foreigners in our country should be clear and simple”.

The premier asked the responsible authorities to elaborate and approve within one month proposals on amending the law on migration and foreigners’ regime, so that this document should be submitted to the government for consideration and approval.
