29.07.2021, Chisinau - As it is well known in relation to vehicles from the Transnistrian region starting with September 1, 2021, only ones with Republic of Moldova license plates or neutral model number plates, accompanied by a sticker with the 'MD' inscription on the rear of the car, will have access to international road traffic.

With regard to neutral model plates, a complementary option was offered and adapted to the specific situation of the Transnistrian region, thanks to which, a larger number of vehicles driven by the categories of beneficiaries listed in art. I, point 3 of the Law no. 170/2018 was registered starting with September 1, 2018. The relevant services were provided at the offices for registration of means of transport from Tiraspol and Ribnita. The process of documentation of vehicles with neutral plates was fostered by the awareness campaign initiated at the Moldovan-Ukrainian border-crossing points as of January 25 this year.

Thus, 184 vehicles were registered with neutral plates during July 1 – July 24, 2021 in the subdivisions in Tiraspol and Ribnita cities, according to data from the State Register of Vehicles.

At the same time, the data from the State Register of Drivers point out a dynamic increase in the number of applications lodged for changing the driving licenses. In July 2020, 157 licenses have been changed, in comparison to 322 during July, 01- July, 24, 2021.

Regarding the situation of crossing the state border, a number of 230 crossings by vehicles with numbers issued in the Transnistrian region was noticed during the period July 01- July, 20, 2021. However, the number of crossings by vehicles with neutral registration numbers is increasing. During 20 days (July, 01-July 20, 2021), a number of 263 crossings was registered according to data provided by the Moldovan Border Police.

It should be reminded that in accordance with what has been agreed between the relevant authorities of the Republic of Moldova and Ukraine, starting with September 1, access to international road traffic and crossing of the Moldovan-Ukrainian state border will be allowed only for means of transport registered in accordance with the general provisions of the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, with the requirements stipulated in the Law no. 170/2018 and the Government Decision no. 847/2018 and in compliance with the requirements stipulated in the Vienna Convention on Road Traffic of November 8, 1968.
