The government intends to implement a modern nourishment organization model in educational institutions and wants to take on the best international practices in this field. The possibilities of reorganizing and improving the nutrition of children and pupils in schools and kindergartens were examined today at a meeting between Prime Minister Pavel Filip and the representative of a Lithuanian company. It has over 15 years of experience in the field and currently provides public catering in several educational institutions in the Baltic and Ukraine.

The current food system in schools and kindergartens in our country is outdated and faces more problems. Among these - the lack of qualified staff, low wages, the tedious and inefficient procurement process, outdated machinery, unwarranted spending, and inefficient use of public money. In the opinion of specialists, these problems can be overcome by implementing a modern concept of food organization in educational institutions, and the Lithuanian model could be an example in this respect. It is based on outsourcing of services, which provides more efficiency in resource management and contributes to improving the quality of food. An information system is also in place to give parents the opportunity to monitor child feed online. Depending on the size of the institution, the dishes can be prepared on the spot or provided by the catering company. Logistics and acquisition costs are also optimized.

The Prime Minister ordered the creation of a working group with the participation of the representatives of the Ministry of Education, Culture and Research, the Ministry of Finance and the Lithuanian company to carry out a detailed cost analysis and to develop a project on the piloting of the new model of food organization in educational institutions in one of the country’s districts.
