Prime Minister Ion Chicu had an online meeting with a group of leaders of associations of carriers.

The representatives of the goods, passenger transport and taxi drivers referred to the serious problems they faced in their activity sector, among which: unfair competition, control bodies’ abuse, cost of authorizations, return of excise duties in advance and liberalization of the insurances market.

Besides, the carriers demanded also the amendment of aspects in normative and legislative acts, which might exclude the obstacles which jeopardize and block their work. Given that the pandemic crisis led to an almost 50-per cent decrease in the carriers’ activity in the last five months, they also demand financial support.

Ion Chicu said that, as far as it is possible, the cabinet would try to find the best solutions of overcoming the difficulties faced by the carriers’ branch.

„I know that you represent one of the sectors worst hit by the pandemic. Yet, we must together identify solutions and fiscal facilities, which would reduce the unfair competition and the illicit transport. As you meet the category of companies hit by the pandemic, you can benefit from the 60 per cent of the volume of taxes related to the salaries. Moreover, the state subsidizes also the interest on loans,’’ the PM said.

The prime minister instructed the setting up of a working group, made up of representatives of carriers and competent institutions. ‘’On 18 August, we will hold a first meeting of the working group. Its task will be to consider and advance on each project proposed by you,’’ Ion Chicu added.
