The single service for 112 emergency calls became active in Moldova today. Attending the launch event was Prime Minister Pavel Filip. He stressed that, once this system implemented, the citizens in emergency situations will benefit from modern services, just as in European countries.

“We have created the 112 service, in order to bring the intervention services closer to the citizens and to think about everybody’s safety. This means not only that the people will memorize a single number 112, instead of 901, 902 and 903 and in the near future also 904, but more, the system will automate all processes,” Pavel Filip said.

The soft used for the 112 system is of the last generation, Moldova being the second country of Europe to use it, after Sweden. This will allow managing much more complex cases and immediate connection of all services – police, ambulance, rescuers, for a more efficient intervention. The average period of time for the caller’s questioning will be shortened thrice, due to the fact that the system allows identifying the name, residence and exact location.

At the same time, the Prime Minister stressed the decisive role belong, in fact, to the operators who work within the 112 Service and all employees of the specialized services.”This combination between the modern technologies and people dedicated to the service they do will help us advance, do wonderful things. We have managed crisis situations not a single time. After that, I can say with a loud voice that you – rescuers, firemen, physicians, policemen, operators of the emergency services and now also you, the 112 operators, are my heroes!” the prime minister stressed.

In the context, the Premier reminded about those four heroes, members of the crew of the SMURD (Mobile Emergency Service for Resuscitation and Extrication) helicopter, which crashed in southern Moldova two years ago, nearby the Haragas settlement. “It was the moment when we understood that Romania is not only a neighbour country, is not only a good friend for Moldova, but is something more.”

The 112 Service was initiated by Prime Minister Pavel Filip on the period when he acted as Information Technology and Communications Minister. The single emergency number 112 works in 36 European states and, starting from today, in Moldova as well. The numbers 901, 902 and 903 will be active in parallel till late next June, when they will be redirected to 112.
