The activity of the water rescue stations will be organized under a Regulation, approved at a today's cabinet meeting. The document provides for the organization of water rescue stations, the rights, obligations and responsibilities of employees, as well as the necessary measures for the protection and rescue of persons in danger of drowning.

The regulation also establishes the tasks of the General Inspectorate for Emergency Situations regarding the organization of activities that will ensure the increase of the intervention capacity. The document also sees the conditions for the participation of volunteers in the activities of water rescue stations. This will reduce the risk of drowning among the population and increase the quality of water rescue services.

According to the estimated calculations, the opening and annual maintenance of the central rescue stations involves expenses of about 1.4 million lei, and another about 900 thousand lei are needed for their annual maintenance.

Currently, there are 19 water rescue stations in the country on a 24/24 basis. Annually, water rescue personnel rescue about 340 people from drowning and provide qualified assistance to about 1,800 people.
