The European Union remains the main destination for goods exports carried out by economic agents from the Transnistrian region
In the first half of 2026, the volume of goods exports carried out by economic agents from the Transnistrian region to the European Union (EU) Member States remained at the level of the same period in 2025. The share of exports to EU countries in the total volume of foreign trade transactions amounted to 76.9%. At the same time, imports from EU countries accounted for 41.5% of the total volume of goods imported into the region.
Among the European Union Member States, the main export destinations are Romania, Italy and Slovakia. Imports of goods into the region come mainly from Ukraine, EU countries and China. These data clearly demonstrate that companies from the eastern districts of the country and the municipality of Bender maintain their economic ties with the EU, which continues to be the most important external market for the region’s business environment.
The indicators confirm the stable orientation of the Transnistrian region towards the European Union’s trade space – a process that directly supports the country’s economic reintegration. Such an approach contributes to the economic rapprochement of the two banks of the Nistru, as access to the European market requires companies from the region to apply the same rules, procedures, documents and standards applicable throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
