Government allocates 50 million lei for farmers affected by 2025 drought
The Cabinet of Ministers has approved the Regulation on the allocation of financial resources for farmers affected by the drought and severe heat in 2025 for corn and sunflower crops. For this purpose, 50 million lei will be allocated from the National Fund for Agricultural and Rural Development.
"This is direct support for farmers who have suffered major losses. Beyond the figures, this project is about people. In recent years, more and more young people and families have returned home and invested in agriculture. Unfortunately, many of them began this activity in extremely difficult agricultural years. This support is a clear message that the state does not leave them alone in the face of climate crises and their work and courage matter," said Minister of Agriculture and Food Industry Ludmila Catlabuga.
Farmers who have recorded losses in corn and/or sunflower crops, with a damage level of at least 50%, confirmed by official assessment documents, will be eligible for compensation. The financial support will be granted as a direct payment per hectare, through the Agency for Intervention and Payments in Agriculture.
Applications for financial assistance will be submitted to the territorial subdivisions of AIPA within 20 working days from the date the Regulation enters into force, namely from the date of its publication in the Official Journal of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, by 23 October 2025, 792 assessment reports had been registered, covering a total affected area of over 56,000 hectares.
