2041 pupils are studying in Romanian-language educational institutions in the Transnistrian region

The Bureau for Reintegration Policies draws attention to both the positive developments and the persistent difficulties faced by Romanian-language educational institutions in the Transnistrian region, which are subordinated to the Ministry of Education and Research and operate under difficult conditions on the left bank of the Nistru River and in the municipality of Bender.

For the first time in the past fifteen years, the total number of pupils in these schools has exceeded 2,000, reaching 2,041 pupils. This growth, although gradual, confirms that parents continue to choose institutions where the educational process takes place in Romanian, based on curricula approved by the Ministry of Education and Research, which offer real prospects for the future. At the same time, this trend is all the more valuable in the broader context of demographic decline and the constant decrease in the number of pupils throughout the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.

Despite these positive trends, the institutions face major challenges. Five out of the eight schools operate in rented premises that are unsuitable for a full-fledged educational process, do not meet modern standards, and fail to provide conditions necessary for the natural development of pupils. This situation is the result of artificial pressures and obstacles imposed by Tiraspol, which prevents the restitution of original premises or the provision of suitable alternatives, forcing pupils and teachers to carry out their activities in inappropriate conditions.

Against this backdrop of pressure, it is all the more encouraging that parents continue to enroll their pupils in Romanian-language educational institutions, which remain the only safe and viable alternative after the so-called structures in the region have systematically closed Moldovan institutions operating in the Cyrillic script. The eight Romanian-language educational institutions in the Transnistrian region now represent not only an educational option but also a guarantee of the future for pupils in the area, ensuring their right to quality education in line with national, European, and international standards.

The authorities of the Republic of Moldova reiterate their commitment to supporting these institutions through concrete actions and modernization projects, so that every pupil can benefit from a safe and decent educational environment, despite all the artificially imposed obstacles.
