The alarming human rights situation in the Transnistrian region has been discussed with the OSCE Mission to Moldova
The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration, Cristina Lesnic, had an official meeting with the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Claus Neukirch, to discuss a wide range of issues from the negotiating agenda.
Several components of the Berlin Plus Package were tackled, such as telecommunications, inception of the school year in the educational institutions teaching in Romanian, adoption of new amendments and completions of the legislation in force in order to extend the registration period of transport means with neutral plates by 2 years, functioning of the vehicle registration centers and the observance of human rights in the Transnistrian region.
Human rights violations, which have intensified in the Transnistrian region during the Covid-19 pandemic, are particularly alarming, said the Deputy Prime Minister, Cristina Lesnic. She called for the active and visible involvement of the OSCE in resolving individual cases and ensuring respect for human rights as a norm in the Transnistrian region. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister submitted the list of individual human rights abuses that have been addressed towards the Bureau for Reintegration.
A specific issue addressed at the meeting concerned the additional responsibilities of the Bureau for Reintegration and the Joint Control Commission during the elections. The officials exchanged views regarding the safety of the electoral process, but also of the citizens.
