Chisinau regrets the intention of the Transnistrian region to continue self-isolation
The Bureau for Reintegration expresses regrets about Tiraspol's intention to prolong the self-isolation of the region until 1 December this year, under the pretext of the COVID-19 pandemic. According to previous decisions of de facto structures in the region, these measures were due to expire on 30 September.
Without diminishing the seriousness of the epidemiological crisis and the need to protect the population from the infection risk, the Bureau considers that the virus should not be used for political purposes and as a justification for human rights violations.
The health crisis generated by the pandemic is a tough test for all state authorities, their capacities to intervene and adapt to new circumstances. Access to work, to health services and education, as well as free movement cannot hinder even more the situation of the residents who need to commute.
The Bureau repeatedly urges Tiraspol’s representatives to follow up on Chisinau's cooperation initiatives regarding health and epidemiological state, that are in line with the recommendations of the World Health Organization, and calls on the international and local partners to keep under review the situation on human rights.
