Discussions of Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri with high-level representatives of the European Union in Brussels
During the period of March 12–13, 2026, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri paid a working visit to Brussels.
The Deputy Prime Minister held meetings with several high-level representatives of European institutions, including the European External Action Service (EEAS): Secretary-General Belén Martínez Carbonell; Deputy Secretary-General for Political Affairs Olof Skoog; Chair of the EU Political and Security Committee Lene Mandel Vansild; Head of the Division for Georgia, the Republic of Moldova, Armenia, Azerbaijan and Belarus within the EEAS Deren Derya; as well as Director-General of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Neighbourhood and Enlargement Negotiations (DG ENEST) Gert Jan Koopman; Head of Cabinet of the President of the European Council Pedro Lourtie; Member of the Cabinet of the High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy and Vice-President of the European Commission Călin Ungur; and Director of the European Commission’s Service for Foreign Policy Instruments Peter Wagner.
During the discussions, Deputy Prime Minister Valeriu Chiveri presented the current state of affairs in the negotiation process on the Transnistrian settlement, including the dynamics of the dialogue at the level of political representatives and sectoral working groups, as well as key topics of interest to citizens on both banks of the Nistru River. The efforts of the authorities in Chișinău to find sustainable solutions to existing problems and to advance effective sectoral policies for the reintegration of the country were also outlined.
The important role of the European Union in supporting the Transnistrian settlement process and in implementing development projects aimed at reducing disparities between the two banks of the Nistru River was also highlighted, as well as its role in strengthening the energy resilience of the Republic of Moldova in the interest of residents on both banks of the Nistru River.
The Deputy Prime Minister also emphasized the close cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the European Union in the context of the country’s European development path and the fulfillment of commitments by national authorities, stressing the need for closer coordination in reintegration policies and for expanding the implementation of European standards throughout the entire territory of the Republic of Moldova.
