Economic agents from the Transnistrian region continue to export predominantly to the European Union market

In 2025, economic agents from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova continued to carry out foreign trade activities predominantly with the member states of the European Union (EU).

According to data provided by the Customs Service, imports from the EU accounted for 48% of total imports into the region, while exports to the EU market represented 71% of overall trade activities. The main destinations for exports to the European Union were Romania, Poland, and Italy.

Over the course of the previous year, the competent national authorities issued 3,894 certificates of origin for goods for economic agents from the Transnistrian region, of which 2,099 confirmed the preferential origin of goods in trade with EU member states. These data reflect the strengthening of trade relations with European markets and the deepening of economic alignment with the rules of the single market.

It should be emphasized that, over the past four years, the conduct of external trade transactions through control points monitored by the Customs Service of the Republic of Moldova and the use of nationally standardized authorization documents have had a significant impact on the process of economic reintegration of the region. The adaptation of logistics chains has facilitated a marked reorientation of trade from the Transnistrian region toward the European Union, while also contributing to the strengthening of economic connections across both banks of the Nistru River and the uniform application of commercial standards and procedures throughout the territory of the Republic of Moldova.
