The Human Rights Situation in the Transnistrian Region – a Topic of Discussion at a National Conference
On December 11, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Valeriu Chiveri participated in the national conference “Human Rights in the Transnistrian Region: Challenges, Responses, Reintegration Perspectives and the European Path”, organized by the Promo-LEX Association.
The event brought together at the discussion table representatives of public authorities, civil society, the diplomatic corps, the donor community, as well as national and international experts with extensive experience in defending and promoting human rights.
In his speech, the Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the multitude of challenges faced by the constitutional authorities, generated by the unsettled Transnistrian conflict, the lack of effective control over the territory on the left bank of the Nistru River and, consequently, the limited capacity of state institutions to intervene in the region.
At the same time, Valeriu Chiveri expressed gratitude to the organizers for their constant involvement in addressing the serious issues related to the Transnistrian file, as well as for the dedication and consistency shown in resolving a significant number of individual cases involving victims of abuses in the Transnistrian region.
Additionally, the conference analyzed developments in the Transnistrian settlement process in the context of the Republic of Moldova’s European integration path and the new regional security architecture. Participants discussed the main challenges of this process, as well as the medium- and long-term opportunities and advantages for both banks of the Nistru River.
