Meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Roman Roșca with the Head of the European Union Delegation to the Republic of Moldova, at the end of his mandate
On 13 August 2025, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Roman Roșca had a meeting with His Excellency Jānis Mažeiks, Head of the Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova, on the occasion of the conclusion of his mandate in our country.
During the discussions, the most pressing issues concerning the inhabitants on both banks of the Nistru River were reviewed, along with the role of the European Union in supporting the country’s reintegration policies, the implementation of multiple development projects and measures to promote confidence-building, the substantial contribution made by the EU to managing the energy crisis, as well as the commitments agreed upon in the process of the Republic of Moldova’s European integration – a strategic objective that also fosters the restoration of the country’s unified national spaces.
The following were reiterated as constant priorities on the Transnistrian dimension: improving the alarming human rights situation in the eastern districts of the country, providing social and humanitarian assistance to vulnerable groups, resolving the issues faced by schools with instruction in Romanian – including the restitution of the premises that formerly belonged to “Evrika” Theoretical Lyceum in the city of Râbnița – and managing, with the support of Chișinău and Brussels, the energy crisis on the left bank of the Nistru River, in the context of real progress from Tiraspol, including the cancellation of persecution measures against citizens under the guise of combating alleged extremist activities.
The willingness of the European Union to provide new assistance and expertise measures capable of stimulating the implementation of the country’s reintegration policies was also welcomed.
Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks reiterated the European Union’s firm support for a comprehensive, peaceful, and lasting settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, based on respect for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, without affecting its pro-European path. He also wished Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Roman Roșca great success in carrying out his entrusted Governmental mandate.
Messages of cordial thanks for the excellent cooperation carried out were conveyed to Ambassador Jānis Mažeiks, along with wishes for remarkable success in his future professional activities.
