Members of the Joint Control Commission could not meet today
The working meeting of the members of the Joint Control Commission, which was to be held today in Bender to examine current issues regarding the functioning of the peacekeeping mechanism and the situation in the Security Zone, did not take place due to a COVID-19 outbreak in the Joint Military Command.
In the coming weeks, the Joint Control Commission will operate remotely. Permanent communication between all components of the peacekeeping operation, including the Joint Military Command and military observers, will be maintained so as not to jeopardize the Security Zone regime, established under the Moldovan-Russian Agreement of 21 July 1992.
As of October 8, the Transnistrian side is blocking the opening of the Joint Control Commission’s regular meetings. The representatives of Tiraspol reject the inclusion on the agenda of the problems that occurred lately in the Security Zone.
The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova will continue to promote on the JCC’s agenda the decision-making by which to eliminate illegal “border guard” checkpoints and other military structures that are not part of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces, as well as to release the citizens abducted by the unconstitutional structures in the Security Zone.
