Prime Minister says Romania to remain basic ally of Moldova on European path

Prime Minister Maia Sandu pays her first official visit, at the bilateral level, to Romania in her capacity of Prime Minister, at an invitation by Romanian President Klaus Iohannis.   

 

The social and economic situation in Moldova and the actions the Moldovan cabinet is to undertake on the immediately next period, in order to efficiently meet the expectations of the citizens and the foreign partners, were discussed by Prime Minister Maia Sandu and President Klaus Iohannis today.

 

At the meeting, Prime Minister Maia Sandu asked for support and assistance on behalf of Romania, including through high-level counseling. “We need the support of our friends from Romania, especially as not only common economic interests connect us, but also a joint historical, cultural and value-related foundation,” Maia Sandu said. In the context, the Moldovan PM noted that the cabinet was willing to develop joint projects with Romania and showed openness for Romanian investment initiatives.    

 

Also, Prime Minister Maia Sandu reiterated interest in a string of common actions and initiatives, such as the continuation of programmes on the restoration of schools and kindergartens, development of projects in the environmental protection sector, supply of residents from rural regions with water and sewerage systems, energy interconnection, infrastructure. “The full carrying out of these projects will strengthen even more the citizens’ trust in the viability of the Strategic Partnership between Moldova and Romania,” Sandu added.  

  

Romanian President Klaus Iohannis displayed support for the overcoming of the political crisis and welcomed the peaceful transition of the power to the cabinet led by Maia Sandu. Also, the Romanian head of state reiterated that Moldova had Romania’s every support for the promotion of the agenda of pro-European reforms and for the advancement of the bilateral strategic partnership for Moldova’s European integration. President Iohannis also informed about Romania’s clear-cut support for providing Moldova with assistance meant for the consolidation of the institutions from the country, as well as to continue the bilateral projects underway, especially the strategic ones of energy inter-connection. “Romania has been and will be the most constant and dedicated backer of Moldova for the country’s democratic transformation, for achieving the level of prosperity and security its citizens are willing and for its European integration,” the Romanian president added.
