After a two-year break, the economy working group meeting took place in Tiraspol

On September 19, 2023, at the OSCE Mission headquarters in the city of Tiraspol, the economy working group meeting took place after a two-year break.

During the meeting, the subject of the current implementation status of the Protocol Decision on cooperation in the veterinary, quarantine, and plant protection field, dated February 15, 2021, was addressed, with a particular focus on the list of goods subject to sanitary-veterinary control in the transnistrian region.

Another topic discussed by experts from Chisinau concerned recent developments in policies related to the elimination of technical barriers to trade and consumer rights protection, in the context of the European Union acquis implementation following the Republic of Moldova's attainment of candidate status in 2022.

Experts from both sides of the Nistru River also exchanged views on the mechanism for customs duties payment for the import and export of goods and environmental pollution taxes imposed on economic agents in the transnistrian region. This measure aims to gradually integrate economic entities from the region into the national legal and fiscal framework.

Regrettably, Tiraspol's representatives maintained a politicized discourse, alleging supposed pressures from national authorities, without any substantiated arguments.
