The alarming state of human rights in the Transnistrian region was discussed with the Head of the Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the ECHR

The extremely serious situation in the field of human rights in the Transnistrian region and the challenges faced by constitutional authorities and human rights defenders in order to timely assist in the protection of violated fundamental rights were addressed during the meeting of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian with the Head of the Department for the Execution of the Judgments of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR), Ms. Clare Ovey.
Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian mentioned the efforts made through the existing dialogue channels and the positive actions carried out by the government authorities in order to maintain an atmosphere of stability and calm, to promote effective policies for the social-economic reintegration of both banks of the Nistru River, to provide available assistance on individual cases regarding victims of abuses committed by Tiraspol, and to solve the real problems of citizens.
The Head of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies Alin Gvidiani presented the current state of education institutions teaching in Romanian in the region, which, in addition to absence of their own, appropriate premises, also face other problems generated by Tiraspol: unauthorised processing of personal data, attempts to illegally register schoolchildren for potential military service, significant increase in tariffs for utilities, etc.
The current status of some decisions of the ECHR, which are in the process of execution and which involve applicants whose rights were violated in the Transnistrian region (Catan, Mozer, Filin, Negruța, etc.), difficulties associated with the lack of effective control in the eastern districts of the country, strict information censorship and constantly occurring provocations in the region, as well as potential measures of additional intervention by competent national authorities to improve the human rights situation were reviewed.
