The Bureau for Reintegration Policies comes with the following clarifications in relation to persons in illegal detention in the Transnistrian region

Currently, almost 2,000 people are held in places of detention subordinated to the unconstitutional authorities in Tiraspol.
From a legal point of view, all these persons, regardless of the facts incriminated to them, are illegally detained and have the constitutional right to a fair trial by the constitutional courts of law.
The authorities, as well as international and non-governmental organizations in the field of human rights protection, have constantly campaigned for the unconditional release of all detainees or, as the case may be, their transfer to temporary detention for the completion of the investigation by the constitutional institutions.
In the context of recent discussions between Chișinău and Tiraspol on gas delivery to the left bank, the gradual release of political prisoners documented by Promo-LEX was agreed, in coordination with the European institutions.
We mention once again that the issue of persons in illegal detention in the Transnistrian region is among the most sensitive and complex files, being in the permanent focus of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies.
