Chisinau strives to avoid escalation of the conflict in the Security Zone

An additional improvised mobile checkpoint, consisting of so-called border guards and militiamen from the Transnistrian region, blocked the movement of a local from Cocieri village in Dubasari, on the morning of 4 June, 2020, which resulted with incidents. The Bureau of Reintegration was immediately notified by an economic agent – a farmer from the same village.

The Bureau for Reintegration, the local public administration, the police of the Republic of Moldova and the Joint Control Commission (JCC) immediately took note of this incident. The Bureau requested for immediate deployment of the OSCE Mission on the spot, also given that on Thursdays, when the regular JCC meetings take place, the departure of military observers on the ground was repeatedly blocked.

The Bureau for Reintegration qualifies Tiraspol's actions as abusive and destructive. These actions seriously violate the JCC's statutory documents and defy human rights and freedom of movement.

All the authorities and institutions involved in this process have made efforts to avoid further escalation of the conflict and negative consequences for the peace-building process in the region.

After certain measures have been taken by the authorities with support from the locals, some of the Transnistrian structures withdrew and the events were documented.

In this context, the Bureau draws the attention of international partners and 5+2 actors to the fact that such actions obstruct dialogue and undermine the rule of law.
