Current subjects discussed at the Joint Control Commission

The problem of the removal of the illegal posts of the Transnistrian force structures from the Security Zone remains in the center of attention of the delegation of the Republic of Moldova.

The representatives of the Russian Federation proposed to appoint, by way of exception, the commander of its military contingent within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces as member of the Russian delegation. The Chisinau delegates analyzed the proposal from the perspective of the documents of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River and found it impossible to be accepted. Such "exception", when a commander of a military contingent is simultaneously a member of the Joint Control Commission, goes against the concept of hierarchy and subordination of contingents of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces. Such a situation is also unacceptable as it will negatively affect the entire decision-making process of the peace mechanism and further undermine the abilities of the Joint Control Commission to conduct the command and control of military contingents.

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova referred to the existence of other options for solving the discussed problems, expressing its openness for a constructive dialogue based on the constitutive acts of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River.
