The delegation of the Republic of Moldova in the Joint Control Commission reports the presence of illegal checkpoints in the Security Zone

On November 16, 2023, the Joint Control Commission met in Bender. The weekly report of the Joint Military Command on the situation in the Security Zone was heard.

The presence of illegal posts of the Transnistrian force structures was established. The fact demonstrates the continuous defiance of the security regime established for the municipality of Bender by the provisions of the 1992 July 21 Agreement.

During the discussions in the Commission, the exponents of Tiraspol admitted that they periodically set up mobile posts made up of so-called "border guards" in Bender, ignoring the principles of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River.

Having addressed the issue of the unauthorized installation of the metal parapet on the road connecting Varnița with Bender, the representatives from Tiraspol reaffirmed that this installation would be intended for road safety and would not be used to restrict freedom of movement.

The delegation of Chisinau in the Joint Control Commission and the component of the Republic of Moldova in the Joint Military Command will continuously monitor the progress of these unilateral actions in order to avoid the emergence of new outbreaks of tension in the Security Zone.

The next meeting of the Joint Control Commission is scheduled for November 23.
