The Delegation of the Republic of Moldova participated in the first working meeting of this year of the Joint Control Commission

At the meeting held on 23 January 2025 in Bender, the Joint Military Command presented to the Joint Control Commission the reports on the evolution of the situation in the Security Zone from 25 December 2024 until 21 January this year, as well as on explosive objects detected and destroyed in the Security Zone during the second semester of 2024. It was mentioned that the locals detected a total of 758 explosive objects, mostly from the period of the Second World War, all of them were destroyed in safe conditions under the control of the engineers.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova brought to the attention of the Commission the recent cases of defiance of the regime of the Security Zone, mentioning the trainings of the military contingent of the Russian Federation within the Joint Peacekeeping Forces at the end of last year.
These provocative and irresponsible actions have violated several decisions taken over the years at the level of the Joint Control Commission: the trainings were organized contrary to the approved Action Plan for 2024, were conducted at peacekeeping posts instead of permanent deployment points, under the control of military commandants who did not have the appropriate authority, armored vehicles were used that should have been withdrawn from service back in 2003. In addition, the movement of military observers who were supposed to record violations was blocked. Thus, the current peacekeeping mechanism on the Nistru River has been significantly destabilized and discredited.
The delegation of the Republic of Moldova called on the delegation of the Russian Federation to observe the principles of the peacekeeping mission on the Nistru River established in July 1992 and to renounce unilateral actions of a military nature in the Security Zone.
