Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian, together with the Head of the European Union delegation and the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative to the Republic of Moldova visited the Cocieri Plateau
The Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration Oleg Serebrian together with the head of the European Union Delegation in the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Jānis Mažeiks and the UNDP Deputy Resident Representative of the UNDP in the Republic of Moldova, Ms. Andrea Cuzyova, undertook a visit to the communes of Cocieri and Molovata Nouă in the Dubăsari district.
The importance of this project comes in the context of the need to facilitate the connection between the two banks of the Nistru River, the floating bridge being the only way of unhindered traffic in the context of the presence on the road of the illegal infrastructure of the Tiraspol checkpoints.
"We understand very well the importance of the given project. There are about 10,000 inhabitants on the Cocieri plateau who depend on this ferry. A good part of the traffic is also from the districts not controlled by the constitutional authorities. This is also an important factor that must be taken into account, but for the inhabitants of the towns on the Cocieri plateau the floating bridge is vital. The cost of a bridge over the Dniester in this area would amount to several hundred million euros, implicitly a floating bridge is the most suitable solution for the moment", said Oleg Serebrian.
We mention that through the Confidence-Building Measures Program (EU-CBM V), financed by the European Union and implemented by UNDP in the Republic of Moldova, the feasibility study containing recommendations for the modernization of the equipment and facilities of Î.S. "Bacul Molovata" with floating units adaptable to the local context was drafted, while technical solutions for their realization were formulated. At this stage, the feasibility study established the opportunities for the modernization of the coastal infrastructure and the siting/location of the maintenance infrastructure. The project in question is a government priority and is in the attention of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova.
At the same time, during the joint visit of Deputy Prime Minister Serebrian, Ambassador Mažeiks and UNDP Deputy Resident Representative in the Republic of Moldova on the left side of the Nistru River, the inauguration of the repair and equipment project for the kindergarten in Cocieri commune, implemented thanks to EU-CBM V, financed by the European Union, took place. The kindergarten is attended by 170 children, who have the opportunity to attend several thematic circles and study English. At the same time, the preschool education institution offers the opportunity to learn the Romanian language by non-native speakers.
