Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration Oleg Serebrian had a meeting with the Ambassador of the United States of America to the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe, Michael Carpenter

Today, February 27, the Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration Oleg Serebrian had a meeting with the US Ambassador to the OSCE, Michael Carpenter, who was accompanied by the US Ambassador to Chisinau, Kent D. Logsdon.

 

The key topic of the discussions was the regional security situation in the context of Russia's aggression against Ukraine. Special attention was paid to the current dynamics of the interaction between Chisinau and Tiraspol, the positive measures taken by the constitutional authorities in relation to the inhabitants of both banks of the Nistru river.  

 

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian emphasized that the objectives of the policies aimed at reintegrating the country remain focused on the peaceful and comprehensive resolution of the conflict, offering all necessary assistance to the citizens of the Republic of Moldova on the left bank of the Nistru river and the municipality of Bender, while preserving the perspective of European integration.

 

Oleg Serebrian emphasized that both the country reintegration policies and the mechanisms agreed in the negotiations must lead to the peaceful and definitive settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, with the demilitarization of the region, the restoration of control by the constitutional authorities and the completion of structural reforms throughout the country.

 

Regarding the recently made amendments regarding the criminalization of separatism in the legislation of the Republic of Moldova, it was emphasized that they will not affect the negotiation process and individuals of good faith, but are intended to prevent and combat threats to the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the country.
