Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration Oleg Serebrian participated in the Defence 24 Day international conference held in Warsaw
Between May 24-26, Mr. Oleg Serebrian, Deputy Prime Minister for reintegration and political representative from Chisinau in the negotiation process regarding the Transnistrian settlement, visited the Republic of Poland in connection with his participation in the Defence 24 Day international conference (24-25.05.2023), the largest and most important forum in Central and Eastern Europe dedicated to defense and security issues.
As the speaker of the panel Impact of the war in Ukraine and the Transnistrian conflict on the security of the Republic of Moldova, the Moldovan official presented to a large audience aspects of the Transnistrian problem, the regional geopolitical situation and the dynamics of the negotiation process regarding the Transnistrian settlement in the context of the war in Ukraine. Special attention was paid to the negotiation formats and the dynamics of the interaction between Chisinau and Tiraspol. The Deputy Prime Minister emphasized the importance of the peaceful resolution of the conflict and the revitalization of the negotiation process, reaffirming the commitment of his Government to continue the dialogue in order to resolve the Transnistrian problem. Mr. O. Serebrian mentioned the special role of the European Union and external partners in the process of resolving the Transnistrian conflict, including in identifying solutions regarding the ammunition from the Cobasna depot.
During the event, meetings were held with the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Zbigniew Rau, with the plenipotentiary of the Prime Minister of the Republic of Poland for supporting reforms in the Republic of Moldova, Mr. Adam Eberhardt, as well as with the president of the Defence24 Board of Directors, Mr. Piotr Małecki.
Also, a meeting was held with the Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Poland, Mr. Arkadiusz Mularczyk. The discussions focused on topics related to the settlement of the Transnistrian conflict, European integration, strengthening the security and resilience of the Republic of Moldova and the support that Poland can offer in this regard. Mr. O. Serebrian informed about the progress of the negotiation process, the efforts made by the authorities and strategic development partners to maintain stability and security in the region, reiterating the need for demilitarization and democratization of the Transnistrian region.
Participation in the event was an excellent opportunity to inform the public about the current challenges to the stability and security of the Republic of Moldova and the prospects of the negotiation process with Tiraspol, to carry out an exchange of views on defense and security topics, as well as to get acquainted with the modern equipment and facilities produced by the Polish defense industry. It was also a good opportunity to discuss the role of special units in maintaining the international and internal security of the states in the region. During the forum, Mr. O. Serebrian gave an interview to Defense 24 Day television station.
The 2023 edition of the conference, which was attended by approximately 3000 participants and 300 panelists, included five thematic blocks: deterrence and defense, resilience, modernization of the armed forces, the defense industry, the special operations forces "Sofeast" (the elite secret services).
