Dynamics of the registration of vehicles from the Transnistrian region with national and neutral sample registration plates

According to the data of the State Register of Vehicles, during the period from 1 January to 30 June 2026, 952 vehicles with neutral sample registration plates were registered at the subdivisions of the Public Services Agency in the municipality of Tiraspol and the city of Râbnița. Since the start of operation of the above-mentioned registration offices, during the period from 1 September 2018 to 30 June 2026, 13,408 non-commercial vehicles from the Transnistrian region have been documented with neutral sample registration plates.

In the first half of 2026, 2,834 vehicles from the region were documented with national sample registration plates. Overall, the number of vehicles with national sample registration plates reached 22,030 units.

The data confirm that residents of the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova prefer to register their vehicles with national sample registration plates. At the same time, the increasing dynamics of registration at the subdivisions of the Public Services Agency reflects the gradual integration of residents from the left bank of the Nistru River into the unified legal space of the Republic of Moldova, as well as their direct access to the rights, services and opportunities provided by the national legal system.

We remind that registration with neutral registration plates is a transitional and temporary mechanism in the process of documenting vehicles. This mechanism creates the necessary conditions for the inclusion of vehicles in the unified national registration system, their monitoring within the framework of national and international road traffic, facilitating compliance by drivers residing in the territory temporarily not controlled by the constitutional authorities with the requirements of the applicable regulatory framework, as well as encouraging the acquisition of national sample registration plates.
