Energy experts from both banks of the Nistru River discussed potential ways to deliver energy resources to the Transnistrian region

On January 29, 2025, a technical working meeting was held via videoconference, with the participation of experts in the field of electricity from both banks of the Nistru River, representatives of the Delegation of the European Union to Chișinău, the European Commission and the offices of political representatives in the process of negotiations on the transnistrian settlement.

In the context of the support provided by the European Union (EU), Chișinău  proposed to Tiraspol effective methods for overcoming the energy crisis, coordinating and implementing alternative mechanisms for energy supply to the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova. For these processes to be effective, Tiraspol needs to provide some technical details and statistical data on categories related to electricity and gas consumption in the region.

Chișinău emphasized the need to find a mechanism to ensure that the gas that will be purchased under the support provided by the European Union primarily covers the needs of household consumers, hospitals, schools and other social centers in the region.

The dialogue on technical aspects will continue at the level of energy company specialists.
