The European Union remains the main external economic partner of companies from the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova

In the first half of 2025, exports from economic agents in the Transnistrian region to European Union (EU) member states accounted for 76.9% of the region's total external trade volume. During the same period, imports into the region from the EU made up 45.8% of the total volume of goods brought into the territory of the Republic of Moldova.

The main export destinations for the region include Romania, Italy, and Germany, while the top import partners are Ukraine, Romania, and Poland. These figures clearly confirm a growing trend of strengthened economic ties between the business sector in the Transnistrian region and EU markets, consolidating the EU’s position as the region’s leading trade partner.

Even amid the challenges posed by the ongoing energy and economic crisis affecting the Transnistrian region, the neighboring countries of the Republic of Moldova – Romania and Ukraine – as well as the wider European Union market, continue to be stable and reliable trading partners for economic agents on the left bank of the Nistru River.
