Freedom of Movement and Press Access to the Security Zone Discussed at the Joint Control Commission

On May 14, 2026, members of the Joint Control Commission met in Bender.

The focus of the discussions was on issues recently raised by the delegation of the Republic of Moldova: the unconditional access of journalists to the Commission’s activities and to the Security Zone, the free movement of residents on both banks of the Nistru River, and, in this context, the removal from the Security Zone of illegal posts of Transnistrian security structures. Numerous violations committed by representatives of the Russian Federation and Tiraspol were also highlighted, including the disregard of the peacekeeping mission’s acts.

During the meeting, consensus was not reached on the appointment of two military observers from the Republic of Moldova.

Discussions will continue next week.
