Freedom of movement and respect for human rights discussed with OSCE representatives

On Thursday, 10 October 2024, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian had a meeting with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairmanship-in-Office for the Transnistrian settlement process, Ambassador Thomas Mayr-Harting, accompanied by the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Kelly Keiderling.
The officials approached the current situation in the Transnistrian settlement process and the Government priorities in the field of reintegration policies of the country.
The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the commitment of the national authorities to contribute to solving the existing problems, such as the activity of economic agents in the Transnistrian region, the authorization of imports/exports of certain categories of goods, by applying the requirements of the legislation in force of the Republic of Moldova, but also from the perspective of the European legislation.
Another topic of discussion was free movement and respect for human rights in the region. In this regard, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration referred to the case of the group of writers who on September 16 this year were subjected to aggressive treatment and search at the illegal post of the Transnistrian security structures, emphasizing the need for Tiraspol to refrain from such destructive practices.
The topic of schools teaching in Romanian in the Transnistrian region was also addressed, mentioning the necessity to make efforts to support their unhindered activity.
The Deputy Prime Minister also brought to the attention of the OSCE high officials the issue of farmers in Dubăsari district, informing about the latest developments in this file.
In the same vein, the democratic election exercise to be held on 20 October 2024 was also mentioned. Thus, it was signaled that the Chișinău authorities have taken all the necessary steps to ensure the smooth conduct of the elections.
