The lack of own premises remains the main obstacle in preparing educational institutions with instruction in the Romanian language in the Transnistrian region

Between 24 and 25 August 2026, representatives of the Ministry of Education and Research, the National Public Health Agency, the National Food Safety Agency and the National Inspectorate for Technical Supervision carried out inspection checks in educational institutions with instruction in Romanian language, located in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova.  The purpose of the inspections was to assess the level of preparedness of the institutions for the 2026–2027 school year, including in educational, sanitary, food, and technical aspects.

During the visits, it was established that the school administrations and teachers are making targeted efforts to ensure proper and safe learning conditions. At the same time, the main obstacle to the proper organization of the educational process remains the lack of own premises. Consequently, the institutions are forced to carry out the educational process in rented and adapted spaces that do not fully meet the specific requirements for educational institutions. 

Studying in unsuitable or insufficiently adapted premises limits the opportunities for setting up classrooms, canteens, and sports areas, creating additional difficulties in complying with all established requirements. 

Providing educational institutions with their own adequate and safe premises remains a priority, as this is an essential condition for the stable and high-quality functioning of the educational process.

The authorities of the Republic of Moldova reaffirm their commitment to supporting the operation of the eight schools providing instruction in Romanian and, more broadly, to modernising the education system in the Transnistrian region. Its development should be carried out in accordance with the provisions of the Education Code of the Republic of Moldova, national quality standards and the principles of the European Education Area, including, where applicable, the standards of the Bologna Process, so that all children and young people in the region have access to quality, safe and recognised education.
