Meeting of Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian with the group of writers who were recently banned from entering the city of Tighina

September 20, 2024 Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian and Deputy Roman Roșca, Chairman of the Special Commission for Parliamentary Monitoring and Control over the Implementation of Reintegration Policies in the Republic of Moldova had a meeting with the group of writers who on September 16 were subjected to aggressive treatment and a search at an illegal post established by Transnistrian security structures, as well as a ban on further movement to participate in a literary meeting with pupils of the Theoretical Lyceum „Alexandru cel Bun” in Bender.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian informed that the political representative from Tiraspol was notified of this revolting case without delay, with a request to present explanations on the artificially generated incident, to refrain from such provocative measures that encroach on the freedom of movement, but also seriously affect the educational process in Romanian-language schools in the Transnistrian region.

Along with this, an appeal was sent to the OSCE Mission to Moldova, as well as diplomatic missions and international organizations accredited in the Republic of Moldova to take all possible measures, in the light of the levers at their disposal, in order to convince Tiraspol to renounce abuses and to respect non-discriminatory fundamental rights and freedoms of children and writers.

Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian assured that he would keep this case under review and also expressed his readiness to participate, together with a group of writers, in the next visit to one of the Romanian-language schools in the Transnistrian region.
