Meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration with Merle Spellerberg, member of the Bundestag of the Federal Republic of Germany from the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Party

The Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian met with Mrs. Merle Spellerberg, member of the Bündnis 90/Die Grünen Party in the German Bundestag, accompanied by Mrs. Margaret Uebber, the Ambassador of the Federal Republic of Germany to the Republic of Moldova.

The officials discussed various aspects related to the Transnistrian file, the current issues on the negotiation agenda and the position of Chisinau on how to resolve them.

Clarifications were offered on the new provisions of the criminal legislation punishing separatism, with the remark that they are intended to strengthen the country's security, sovereignty and the territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova, do not affect the negotiation process and represent the application of already existing constitutional regulations.

The precarious situation of human rights in the Transnistrian region was highlighted, with many citizens there being persecuted and illegally deprived of their freedom for expressing critical opinions, and the access of journalists from the right bank being restricted.
