Meeting of Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian with Norbert Lammert, former President of the German Bundestag, Chairman of Konrad Adenauer Foundation
On September 17, 2024 Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian met with a delegation of the Konrad Adenauer Foundation (KAS), headed by Mr. Norbert Lammert, former President of the RFG Bundestag, Chairman of KAS.
During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister Serebrian presented the current situation in the Transnistrian region and the Security Zone, outlining in detail the progress of the negotiation process. „The war in Ukraine has seriously changed the mechanisms of the negotiation process between Chișinău and Tiraspol, as well as the agenda of the discussions. This does not mean that our intention to find a peaceful, diplomatic solution to this issue has changed in any way. The Transnistrian region will gradually be reintegrated into the legal field of the Republic of Moldova,” said the Deputy Prime Minister. Asked by the German guests about how Chișinău intends to link the country's reintegration process to the European integration one, Oleg Serebrian said: „We will do our best to advance the country's reintegration process. At the same time, the European integration process should in no way be a hostage to the reintegration process. On the contrary, European integration can become a catalyst for the reintegration we crave.”
The Deputy Prime Minister highlighted the progress achieved in the socio-economic restoration of the country's unity: all companies from the Transnistrian region export on the basis of national permissive acts, 80% of the region's exports go to the EU, over 90% of the inhabitants of the region have Moldovan citizenship, many of them are integrated into the right bank labor field.
In conclusion, Oleg Serebrian thanked the Adenauer Foundation for its support to the civil society of the Republic of Moldova, as well as to the public institutions.
