Meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration with the Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian settlement process
On Wednesday, August 2, 2023, the Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian had a meeting with the special representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian settlement process, Mr. Thomas Mayr-Harting, accompanied by the head of the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova, Mrs. Kelly Keiderling .
The Deputy Prime Minister reviewed the current situation in the dialogue between Chisinau and Tiraspol, noting that in 2023 there were 2 meetings of political representatives and 5 meetings of sectoral working groups, as well as stating that in the existing interaction formats, Chisinau promotes policies aimed at the reintegration of the country and at solving the urgent problems of the inhabitants on both banks of the Nistru River.
A message was conveyed regarding the need for Tiraspol to change its tactics of accepting working meetings only at the offices in Tiraspol and Bender of the OSCE Mission to the Republic of Moldova, with the artificial politicization of a non-existent problem, the alleged existence of barriers to free movement on the right bank motivated by the criminalization of separatism in the national legislation, and which in reality is an inverted image in the light of the restrictions and obstacles abusively maintained by Tiraspol in/from the localities of the Transnistrian region.
The alarming situation of respect for human rights in the region which is continuously deteriorating and where even people known to the public are not protected, as was the case of the murder with visible signs of torture of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova Oleg Horjan, was brought back into attention, with the reiteration of the request to the OSCE to support national law enforcement bodies in order to fully investigate the circumstances and evidence in accordance with the requirements of the working legislation.
With regard to the subjects frequently cited by Tiraspol (authorization of imports of various goods, insurance with compulsory motor liability insurance policies, registration of motor vehicles in the region, etc.) it was emphasized that the provisions of the national regulatory framework are applied fairly and non-discriminatory throughout the territory of the country.
