Meeting with the Executive Director of UN Women and Under-Secretary General of the UN, Sima Bahous
Today, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian, together with the Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco, the Secretary General of the Government Dumitru Udrea, the Acting Secretary General of the MFAEI Sergiu Odainic and the representatives of the Bureau of Reintegration Policies had a working meeting with Sima Bahous, UN Women Executive Director, UN Under-Secretary-General, who pays an official visit to the Republic of Moldova, accompanied by UN Resident Coordinator in the Republic of Moldova Simon Springett and UN Women's Country Representative Dominika Stojanoska.
Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian noted the positive cooperation between the UN and the governmental institutions of the Republic of Moldova in promoting the Women, Peace and Security Agenda, highlighted the unique role of women in supporting peace processes, and sincerely appreciated the full support and humanitarian assistance provided by UN Women, including in the accommodation and assistance of Ukrainian refugees who have found refuge in the country.
UN Under-Secretary-General reconfirmed the excellent cooperation established and developed with the Republic of Moldova, highlighted UN priorities in achieving gender equality, political and economic empowerment of women, combating violence against women and girls, implementation of UN SC Resolution 1325, encouraged strengthening public policy on these dimensions, including from the perspective of women's involvement in peace negotiations, evoked the spirit of solidarity and assistance provided to ensure the protection of the rights of temporary refugees in the Republic of Moldova, many of whom are women, girls, children and persons in difficulty.
The efforts made by the internal affairs institutions in the management of the issue of refugees coming to the Republic of Moldova and the need for assistance to make this process more efficient were stated by the Minister of Internal Affairs Ana Revenco. The Secretary General of the Government expressed gratitude for the multidimensional support offered by the UN in this regard, while the Acting Secretary General of the MFAEI stressed that the UN is a key partner for the Republic of Moldova and contributes substantially to crisis management.
The officials expressed the opinion that it was essential to strengthen cooperation between the Republic of Moldova and the UN, promote partnerships of common interest and intervene with various relevant forms of assistance.
