The meeting of the Joint Control Commission
On September 28, 2023, the weekly meeting of the Joint Control Commission took place in the Bender city, several current issues concerning the situation in the Security Zone being addressed.
The Joint Military Command reported on the deployment of military observers to the village of Chitcani on September 25th and 26th, where fragments of a supposed rocket were identified in a private household. Subsequently, the fragments were evacuated under the supervision of engineers.
Given that the identified fragments are stored in uncontrolled territory, our delegation requested a comprehensive investigation of the cases involving specialists from the constitutional authorities.
Another issue highlighted by the representatives of the Republic of Moldova was the restriction of freedom of movement for journalist Elena Covalenco, which occurred on September 21st at one of the unauthorized checkpoints of the transnistrian security structures. The cancellation of any restrictions on her and others was requested, removing all barriers to free movement in the Security Zone, as stipulated in the Agreement of July 21, 1992.
On another note, the delegation of the Republic of Moldova repeated the need for representatives from Tiraspol to provide relevant information regarding the circumstances of the incident on September 7th in Rabnița when, as a result of so-called "training exercises" by transnistrian security forces using live ammunition, the walls and windows of residential buildings were damaged.
Through a declaration by the delegation of the Republic of Moldova, the intention of the transnistrian security structures to patrol railways, including within the perimeter of the Security Zone, with armed personnel, was exposed. The Joint Control Commission was warned that such unilateral actions are in contradiction with the documents of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru River and destabilize the situation in the Security Zone.
Delegates from Chișinau called on Tiraspol to cease abuses and emphasized the need to utilize available mechanisms at the level of the Joint Control Commission, the Joint Military Command, and military observers to ensure control within the area of responsibility of the Joint Peacekeeping Forces.
