At the meeting of the Joint Control Commission on October 26, 2023, the Chișinău delegation requested explanations regarding the unauthorized work carried out between the village of Varnița and the city of Bender

The Joint Control Commission met in Bender on October 26.

The incomplete report of the Joint Military Command for the previous week was not signed, for the reason that the Tiraspol exponents blocked the documentation of the changes made in the infrastructure of the checkpoints of the Transnistrian structures located at the entrance to the city of Bender.

The central subject addressed by the delegation of the Republic of Moldova concerned the continuation of illegal actions limiting free movement in the Security Zone. The representatives of the Transnistrian region refused to provide explanations regarding the unauthorized works on the road connecting the city of Bender and the village of Varnița.

Therefore, the Chișinău delegation expressed its position in a statement broadcast to the participants of the Joint Control Commission, by which it assessed these actions as provocative, unfounded and inadmissible, reminding that the unconstitutional force structures have been trying for several years various illegal methods to close traffic in this sector, but also to strengthen their infrastructure on the entire perimeter of the Security Zone by installing additional modules and video surveillance, landscaping, installing fixed or mobile stations, etc.

Chișinău constantly requested, on the platform of the Joint Control Commission, the documentation of unilateral measures and the removal of checkpoints and obstacles installed on the road. The lack of prompt reaction from the Joint Control Commission to such illegal actions demonstrates the low efficiency of the existing mechanisms in the margin of the peacekeeping operation on the Nistru River. Supported by the Russian component in the Joint Military Command and abusing the consensual principle in decision-making, the Tiraspol exponents hamper the military observers from legally fixing the changes in the situation in the area of responsibility, including the measures taken to strengthen the posts. This information is not reflected in the weekly reports; consequently, it cannot be discussed at the JCC meetings.

The delegation of the Republic of Moldova made a new appeal to all components of the JCC to fully apply the mechanisms of the peacekeeping operation, referring in particular to the instruments that allow the documentation of admitted violations, as well as to adopt a decision providing exclusion of any unilateral actions that tenses the situation in the Security Zone and discredits this operation completely.
