Message from the Bureau for Reintegration Policies on the occasion of Europe Day
On May 9, the Republic of Moldova, together with other European countries, celebrates Europe Day, a holiday of peace and unity. This day symbolizes not only the commemoration of Robert Schumann's historic declaration, which laid the foundations of the European Union (EU), but also our unwavering commitment to the ideals of freedom, democracy and mutual respect among nations.
The celebration of Europe Day is particularly significant for the Republic of Moldova, in the context of its aspirations for European integration, but also in the process of solving the Transnistrian conflict. Through dialogue and projects implemented on the left bank of the Nistru River, we are building measures of common trust and peaceful development that contribute to the stability and prosperity of the whole country.
The benefits of European integration are visible in the Transnistrian region, where development projects funded by the European Union encourage the improvement of infrastructure, access to education and healthcare, as well as expanding economic opportunities, including export and import to/from the EU. It is noteworthy that in the first quarter of 2024 the share of exports from the Transnistrian region to the EU reached 80.9 % and that of imports amounted to 56.3 %.
The celebration of Europe Day is also a good reason to reaffirm the importance of respect for human rights and fundamental freedoms in the Transnistrian region. It is essential to create an environment in which every citizen’s dignity and honor is respected in accordance with European standards.
The path of the Republic of Moldova to the European Union clearly shows that European integration is not only a safer political and economic framework, but also a more prosperous future for all our citizens on both banks of the Nistru River.
Inspired by the values and principles of the European Union, we celebrate Europe Day with the confidence that through solidarity and cooperation we will move towards peace and prosperity in the interests of all citizens of the Republic of Moldova.
