Over 182 million lei from the national healthcare and social insurance budgets were allocated to beneficiaries from the Transnistrian region in 2023
In 2023, the national authorities paid over 182 million lei from budgetary resources, as medical insurance and social assistance expenses for the residents of the eastern districts of the country.
In particular, 77,64 million lei were paid from the funds of compulsory health insurance for 4 676 cases treated in hospital medical institutions contracted by the National Health Insurance Company (NHIC) and whose beneficiaries were persons residing in the Transnistrian region.
Moreover, 23 075 citizens of the Republic of Moldova residing in the Transnistrian region were registered with general practitioners from medical and healthcare institutions providing primary healthcare within the mandatory health insurance, for whom NHIC paid 19 million lei. Of these, 8 636 (37,5 %) were uninsured.
Similarly, in 2023, 2 912 persons residing in the Transnistrian region received old age, disability and survivors’ pensions, social allowances and payments provided through the compulsory state social insurance system, totaling 85,5 million lei.
It is worth noting that in 2023, compared to 2018, the number of recipients of pensions, benefits and other categories of payments increased from 1 295 to 2 912 persons (+ 124,9 %), and the amounts paid increased from 30 million lei to 85,4 million lei (+ 184,7 %). In total, over the last 5 years, the funds paid for the said categories of persons amounted to 330,23 million lei.
