Over 362 thousand holders of citizenship of the Republic of Moldova reside in the Transnistrian region of the country

According to data provided by the Public Services Agency, as of 31 December 2024, the number of inhabitants of the Transnistrian region included in the State Register of Population reached 371 551 persons, increasing by 5 019 persons compared to the previous year. Of these, 362 325 persons hold the citizenship of the Republic of Moldova, which represents an increase of 4 791 citizens compared to 2023.

According to the aforementioned source, 307 726 residents of the Transnistrian region possess identity cards of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova, and 342 443 hold passports of the citizen of the Republic of Moldova.

In the context of the implementation of Government Decision No. 286/2019 on the certification of civil status facts in the localities on the left bank of the Nistru River and the municipality of Bender, the process of obtaining civil status documents regarding civil status facts produced and registered in settlements within this perimeter was simplified.

Thus, in 2024, 11 651 persons from the Transnistrian region requested the certification of civil status facts, 16 746 civil status documents of national model (9 181 certificates and 7 565 duplicates) were issued, with the granting of facilities for 3 192 applicants who applied for an identity card of a citizen of the Republic of Moldova and 786 applicants for a temporary identity card.

The implementation of these actions reflects the continuous commitment of the Moldovan authorities to facilitate the integration of the citizens of the Transnistrian region into the national legal framework and to ensure their access to public services and respect for fundamental rights.
