Third meeting of the year of experts from both banks of the Nistru River in the field of healthcare

Today, November 6, 2024, a new meeting of experts from both banks of the Nistru River in the field of healthcare was held in an online format, with the participation of Mr. Dragos Guțu, Head of the Working Group from Chișinău, General Director of the Medicines and Medical Devices Agency (MMDA), institutional experts and representatives of the Bureau for Reintegration Policies.

A priority topic of discussion, proposed by Chișinău, focused on the need to carry out laboratory control of the quality of medicines imported into the Republic of Moldova by pharmaceutical distributors from the Transnistrian region, in order to supervise the unique pharmaceutical market, eliminate risks and ensure at national level the access of the population to quality medicines.

During the meeting, the quality control procedures of medicines carried out in the Laboratory of Quality Control of Medicines of MMDA and the requirements to be observed by authorized distributors of the region in terms of placing quality medicines on the pharmaceutical market were considered, based on the prospect of compliance with the requirements of the European Union (EU) and international requirements in the field of pharmacovigilance.

Particular attention was paid to the provisions of the new law on medicines, which bring the regulatory framework in this area closer to EU legislation, recognizing the need to inform economic agents and relevant experts of the Transnistrian region in advance about the upcoming regulatory changes in order to properly prepare the processes of providing safe medicines to citizens from the eastern districts of the country.

Consultations and dialogue on this topic will continue at the next meetings, the organization of which will be established in working order.
