World Bank to continue to support modernization of Moldova

The projects implemented in the Republic of Moldova with the support of the World Bank and the country’s development priorities for the coming period were discussed by Prime Minister Vasile Tofan and World Bank Group Country Manager for Moldova Ulrich Schmitt.

The official appreciated the support offered by the World Bank to the Republic of Moldova and emphasized the importance of using the available resources efficiently so that investments generate tangible results for people and the economy.

The interlocutors discussed the continuation of cooperation in priority areas such as infrastructure development, energy resilience, digitalization, agriculture, and the improvement of public services. Tofan reiterated the Government’s openness to constant dialogue and to implementing measures that will contribute to advancing ongoing projects and launching new initiatives.

Currently, the active portfolio of the World Bank Group in the Republic of Moldova includes 14 operations with a total value of 735.4 million euros: 11 investment projects, a budget support program (DPO), and two projects at an advanced stage of preparation. The projects target areas such as energy and energy efficiency, water supply and sanitation, agriculture and irrigation, education, health and rehabilitation services, development of small and medium-sized enterprises, rural connectivity, as well as strengthening resilience.

Over the period of cooperation with the World Bank, more than 45 operations have been carried out in the Republic of Moldova, amounting to approximately 1.6 billion euros. Cooperation with the World Bank is based on the Partnership Framework for the period 2023–2027, and the World Bank has already initiated the process of developing the Partnership Framework for the next period.
