Government crisis cell: electricity consumption for 1 January 2025 fully covered

1 january 2024, Chișinău - Government informs that according to the reports of the Crisis Cell, for December 30 and December 31, 2024, the electricity consumption in the Republic of Moldova was fully covered, without the need to activate breakdown contracts and/or unintentional flows.

For December 31, the consumption was covered from the following sources: MGRES/Cuciurgan power plant - 31%, Termoelectrica - 25.95%, CET-Nord SA - 4.29%, NHE Costești State Enterprise - 0.76%, renewable energy - 6.85%, electricity import (RO/UA) - 31.1%

According to the information of Energocom, the consumption will be fully covered also for today, January 1. By December 31, 2024, MGRES delivered more than 50% of the electricity needs of the right bank, which allowed to fully cover the electricity consumption. As a result of the cessation of Russian gas deliveries, the deficit at the power system level will be about 600 MW for the right bank.

The necessary volume will be covered mainly through purchases on the Romanian electricity exchange administered by OPCOM or on the basis of contracts in force between Energocom and electricity producers and suppliers in the region.

As regards the natural gas sector, no incidents were reported.

In the case of thermal energy, no breakdowns or incidents have been recorded at CET-Nord and Termoelectrica, and the generation plants are operating normally according to the pre-set schedule. At present, the daily consumption of natural gas is about 260 thousand cubic meters per day at CET-Nord and 1.88 million cubic meters per day at Termoelectrica.

In the Transnistrian region and the Security Zone, today, January 1, 2025, the Transnistrian region's utilities have halted the supply of natural gas, central heating and hot water to several localities, mostly in private sector buildings that have alternative sources of heating.

Earlier, on December 28, 2024, Tiraspoltransgaz company disconnected from the natural gas network several public institutions in the localities controlled by the constitutional authorities, including schools, hospitals and cultural institutions. The heating supply was also cut off to penitentiaries No 8 and No 12, the territorial subdivisions of the police and prosecutor's offices of the Republic of Moldova located in the city of Bender.

Chisinau authorities are looking for solutions to connect these state institutions to alternative energy resources.

Gazprom has suspended the delivery of natural gas to Moldovagaz as of January 1, 2025, 08:00 (Moscow time). In connection with the potential humanitarian crisis in the Transnistrian region due to the Russian Federation's non-compliance with the contract on natural gas deliveries to consumers on the left bank of the Dniester, the Republic of Moldova is in a state of emergency as of December 16, 2024.
