23 January 2025, Chișinău - Electricity consumption for January 23 on the right bank of the Dniester River is estimated to be at the same level as January 22 and will be fully covered, according to the Government Crisis Cell. There is no need to activate emergency contracts and/or unintended flows.

For today, Energocom has fully reserved at the border with Romania the required commercial capacity to supplement domestic production with imports. Thus, in addition to the electricity generated by Chisinau and Balti thermal power plants and renewable energy installations, the consumption needs will be covered by imported energy based on bilateral contracts and stock exchange.

On January 22, electricity consumption on the right bank of the Dniester River decreased by about 3.1% compared to the previous day, reaching 15,411,000 kWh. The energy sources used were as follows:

  • Electricity import (RO) – 65.62%
  • Termoelectrica – 26.22%
  • Renewable energy – 3.87%
  • CET-Nord – 3.86%
  • NHE Costești – 0.43%

According to data, the peak electricity consumption was recorded between 5:00 PM and 8:00 PM, with a peak of 992 MW at 5:45 PM-6:00 PM. During this interval, consumption exceeded the forecast by 5.2% (equivalent to 52 MW). Other overruns were at 11:45 AM, with an increase of 1.7%, and at 1:45 PM, when consumption was up by 35 MW than forecast.

In this context, consumers are urged to save electricity during peak hours to have lower bills and to ensure the stability of the power system.

In the Transnistrian region, once-daily five-hour fan disconnections continue. On January 22, electricity consumption on the left bank of the Dniester River was 4,258,000 kWh, with sources of coverage being Cuciurgan power plant, Dubasari hydropower plant and technological flow.
