Meeting of the Deputy Prime Minister Oleg Serebrian and Thomas Lenk, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process
On April 7, 2025, Deputy Prime Minister for Reintegration Oleg Serebrian held a meeting with Thomas Lenk, Special Representative of the OSCE Chairperson-in-Office for the Transnistrian Settlement Process, who was accompanied by the Head of the OSCE Mission to Moldova, Ambassador Kelly Keiderling.
The discussions focused on the current state of the negotiation process for the Transnistrian settlement, Chișinău's priorities in advancing reintegration policies, as well as the measures undertaken to address pressing issues.
The Deputy Prime Minister reiterated the need to restore free movement in the Transnistrian region of the Republic of Moldova, to dismantle unauthorized checkpoints in the Security Zone, to ensure unimpeded access for farmers in the Dubăsari district to their agricultural land, and to guarantee the proper functioning of Romanian-language schools, among other concerns.
The OSCE officials’ attention was also drawn to the precarious human rights situation in the region. It was emphasized that the exponents in Tiraspol must refrain from actions that undermine human rights and should, among other things, allow journalists from the right bank of the Nistru River to carry out their professional activities without obstruction in the eastern districts of the country.
The importance of maintaining a constructive dialogue through existing communication channels and addressing current issues in the interest of the residents on both banks of the Nistru River was underscored as a key line of engagement.
