Moldovan apple producers gained free access to Indian market

25 February 2025, Chișinău - Moldovan apples will have free access to India, the largest market in the world, with a population of 1.4 billion people. Previously, the Indian market was closed to Moldovan apple producers. The government informs that on February 21, the Ministry of Agriculture of India completed all necessary procedures and included the Republic of Moldova in the list of countries approved for apple delivery, in accordance with Indian phytosanitary regulations. Exporters will have to comply with established requirements, including the cold treatment of apples before shipment, which will be noted in the phytosanitary certificate issued by ANSA.
To gain access to the Indian market, under the delivery program, members of the Moldova Fruct Association have exported, under ANSA’s supervision 340 tons of apples to India since 2023. The delivery results demonstrated compliance with the phytosanitary regulations imposed by Indian authorities.
The decision was taken following the efforts of the Moldovan Government to diversify export markets for Moldovan products. These coordinated efforts are the result of the work of the Ministry of Agriculture and Food Industry, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Embassy of the Republic of Moldova in India, the National Food Safety Agency (ANSA) and Moldova Fruct Association.
“Moldova can and has succeeded in expanding export markets for Moldovan apples. We will remain alongside our producers to jointly contribute to increasing the competitiveness of Moldovan products and ensuring a safe and predictable business environment in the new export markets,” said Prime Minister Dorin Recean.
Apple exporters interested in exporting to India are invited to consult in advance with ANSA and Moldova Fruct Association.
